This project is about documenting neurodivergent people and their passions, hobbies, and special interests (however you prefer to refer to them), as someone who is considered neurodivergent I find it fascinating that the current discourse around it focuses heavily on autism and ADHD, when in fact the term encompasses so much more than that. I am dyslexic (you've probably spotted grammatical errors here and there) but mental health difficulties are also a form of neurodivergence, as are brain injuries, learning difficulties, developmental disorders etc, it's a much wider range than many realise. And when you take that into account, is Neurotypical really typical? Or is divergent meant to be the way things are?
In this project I'm going to share sets of images that show an individual and the passions that they have, our first is Melanie, she's dyslexic and used to be a fellow photographer (no pressure), she's also a big fan of cross stitch and honestly, these are some really impressive works. I had a great time just chatting with her, talking about her work, life and everything in between. It was also lovely to meet her son and husband although you won't find them pictured together here.
