This set was started during the first lockdown in 2020, I'd been off sick for quite a while so when an opportunity to work in the office (doing the joyous job of sorting the incoming post) came up, I was more than happy to do so.
This is broken down into three sets, the initial set is about the overall emptiness of the streets, the silence and absence of people, it was part of a previous project that was called Without Us (see blog for more information) and focused solely on the city I worked in, the city here is Winchester.
The second set looked more closely at this absence of people, the busy places that should have been busy and noisy, but remained empty. The photos glance through the empty windows but include the reflections of the desolate streets that can be seen in the window.
The last set looks at the people as lockdown is listed, the masks, the road markings that were added for guidance. Changes that you can still see an echo of around you even now. How much attention do you still give them?
Set 1 - Lockdown Streets
These images were done in colour, I felt that in some ways the images lost something in black and white, something I couldn't quite identify. They were originally more desaturated, but as time went on I felt that the colour and sunshine really highlighted how empty the city felt.
Set 2 - Lockdown Reflections in Mono.
In this instance I did go with the mono for most of them, the reason here was that I felt the reflections and the colours became overwhelming and I didn't want that to distract from the feel of the images. There is a bit of a range in styles as you see me get to grip with playing with reflections. I actually hope to try some double exposure off the back of this.
Set 3 - Life After Lockdown
This set predominantly looks at the signs of Covid and lockdown that could be seen in the months after lockdown was lifted, I confess I couldn't say which lockdown as we did end up having a few if I remember rightly. My aim is to add to this as I go around recording the signs of lockdown that have been forgotten, ignored and are now fading or falling down.
